Pablo Picasso, 1881-1973, is known for his paintings, sculpture, and prints. Although he started experimenting with printmaking in 1905, he completed the majority of his prints, over two hundred, after 1945. He worked closely with the printmaker, Henri Deschamps, a celebrated master from the Atelier Mourlot publishing workshop, to create prints that exhibited the same artistry as his other media. Picasso was not afraid to emphasize the subtle variations that occur throughout the stages of the printing process and appreciated that, despite the repetition of the image, it is impossible to create two pieces that are exactly alike.
